10/1/2019 Botanical LungsFor this project you will blend research of botany (the study of plants) and osteology (the study of bone structure) with the Art Nouveau or Expressionism. You will need to break this assignment into manageable pieces, so make a "I need to know how to..." list before you begin. You may need to do some small sketches and practice how to draw some of the elements before you begin on your final.

9/10/2019 Anatomy of an Animal
How to blend with colored pencil9/1/2019 Anatomy Study SketchbookThroughout the next 17 weeks, you will research and study parts of the human anatomy in a handmade sketchbook. Every week you will focus on one assigned feature. You will start the list over halfway through the semester, allowing round 2 to help you see your growth. One spread per feature, the left side is your first round, the right side is your second round. You will have time at the beginning and end of every class to watch tutorial videos, find helpful reference images or rendering techniques. Drawing skills come from practice and knowing a few tricks to make things easier. This will allow you time everyday we meet, to find new ways to improve your drawing skills. Your book's pages should have unity, meaning you've put thought into the design of each page, and all pages look like they belong in the same book.
9/1/2019 Ikea Style Medical ProceduresHave you ever tried to put together a piece of Ikea furniture? If you have, you are familiar with this guy.
Take a look at these manipulated ikea manuals. What do they have in common? What about them, makes them look like an Ikea manual? Take a look at the line weight (the thickness or thinness of a line) Do the lines have the same line weight, or does it vary? How did the artist choose to show darker areas? Did they use a rendering technique like cross hatching or stippling, or did they simply use one value of black to fill areas in? How are the steps organized so we go in the correct order? Text is limited, but when they did use text, what font was used? These are questions you will need to answer before creating your manual.
