Walking The Land
Our next project dives deep into the work of Australian Aboriginal artist Dorothy Napangardi. We will use the element of Rhythm, to explore our surroundings. How could a piece of artwork represent the paths you walk? Please take a moment to explore our Asian American Heritage Month page. Pay special attention to the section on Dorothy Napangardi. We will discuss as a class. MEDIUM: Free choice |
STEP 1: RESEARCH
Please take a moment to explore our Asian American Heritage Month page. Pay special attention to the section on Dorothy Napangardi. See anything that sparks an idea or something that catches your eye? Write it down.
STEP 2: OBSERVE
Over the next few days, pay close attention to the paths you travel. The walks you go on. The journeys you take.
STEP 3: RECORD
What are the paths you walk? Make a list.

STEP 2: OBSERVE
Over the next few days, pay close attention to the paths you travel. The walks you go on. The journeys you take.
STEP 3: RECORD
What are the paths you walk? Make a list.
- Are you walking these paths? Driving? Flying?
- What paths do you walk everyday?
- Are their different paths you walk on the weekends?
- Are their special paths you take on holidays, or special occasions?
- Which of your paths are most connected with nature?
STEP 4: EXPERIMENT
- Spend some time thinking about your paths. How could you represent your paths visually? Make a list with as many ideas as you can think of. Remember, it's your choice of medium.
- Take some time to look over your ideas, and choose the two that you are drawn to the most.
- Sketch out a few examples of what your ideas might look like.
- Get some peer feedback
- Refine your ideas based on your feedback
